Ranging from robin's egg blue to the verdant green of spring leaves, Shirley Phillips colourful experiments with fused beach glass on dishes, tiny plate impressed with lace-like patterns and more are guaranteed to catch your eye in Lilac Sun Pottery. Deeply influenced by the organic shapes, textures and colours of the natural world, this artist will also have a selection of wood-fired porcelain bowls and cups available on the tour weekend, uniquely decorated with highly tactile swirls of clay slip.

Pinching, wrapping and molding textured clay slabs and coils into intriguing shapes in one of Shirley Phillips' fortes. Over the past year this talented hand builder has enjoyed experimenting withthe  primitive technique of 'smoke-firing'. This has involved firing an assortment of wares with organic combustibles such as sawdust and straw in a metal burn barrel over a 24 hour period.  Phillips enjoys the relative unpredictability of the process and accompanying thrill of pleasing surprise results!

Visitors to Lilac Sun Pottery will also discover a lovely selection of golden-hued pieces (wood-fired) ranging from playful 'belly cups' to "slab-formed wall torsos" and textured forms created by layering rolled slabs of ornately-patterned clay over underlying structures.
